Description
Bird of Prey
by Kirby Sattler
Against a field of red, the Plains Indians’ most sacred color, representative of the earth. Bird of Prey, a Northern Plains warrior, begins a spiritual transformation. From the wearing of ritual paint and his split horned, feathered bonnet he acquires certain spiritual powers and physical attributes. This increases his confidence in the close relationship he conceives to exist between all other visible created forms and himself. Only the most eminent of warriors were accorded the right to wear a horned bonnet and their owners were held in high esteem by all the Plains Tribes.
